Stock:
The Garrett VNT15 turbo came stock with cars made from 1999.5 - 2003, this turbo was able to safely provide up to 134 HP when used with a chip tune and upgraded nozzles.
The Upgrade:
The Garrett VNT17 turbo, also know as GT1749V and GT1749VB, another acceptable upgrade option is the Borg Warner BV39 PD140 turbo, also refered to as the S7 turbo.
History:
Several years ago Garrett used to make a GT1749VA, GT1749VB, and GT1749VC turbo, the GT1749VB was the strongest of those turbos and all 3 of those Garrett part numbers have been discontinued. Instead of having those 3 options they were elimated and reduced to just GT1749V, this turbo is good for 24 PSI of sustained boost and 170 HP. If you bought a turbo from Garrett in the last 2 years that was a GT1749V it is a VNT17 turbo.

The Garrett VNT17 turbo, when used with a Stage 4 tune, a 3 bar map sensor, and PP764, DLC764, or Race520 nozzles, can acheive 170 WHP. This provides a safe, fun, and fuel efficient daily driver that can still achieve over 50 mpgs. (We have can provide customer referrals that confirm this)
