Used v.s New metering valve
Aside from saving money, there's another good reason why you may want a pump with a used valve. BMW DDEs (the engine computer) remember adaptations for some hardware and sensors that are installed on the car and they are supposed to be cleared after being replaced. Examples include but are not limited to...MAF, injectors, exhaust manifold pressure sensor, rail pressure sensor, HPFP metering valve and more. If your car already has an aggressive tune and it's not having any issues with low rail pressure...it's safe to assume that your metering valve is working just fine and you can save a good bit of money by swapping it over to the new pump. The metering valve is easy to change and it's held in by just 3 screws. If you swap metering valves, adaptations do not need to be reset. The only tool that we know of that can reliably clear adaptations is ISTA/Rheingold. It is possible for that software to fail also but it will acknowledge that it failed if you read the text very carefully. If reset is unsuccessful, you have old BMW factory software and it needs to be updated by a BMW dealer or we can patch that software for you when installing a JR tune.
